It may be too late to “Apologize” for One Republic Drummer Eddie Ray Fisher. But it’s certainly not too late to hire an experienced Denver criminal defense attorney.
According to celebrity website TMZ.com, Fisher flew into a rage during a fight with his girlfriend. A mug shot has been circulating showing the drummer with a nasty gash on his forehead. It’s not clear at this point whether the wound was somehow self-inflicted, whether it came from his girlfriend or whether it’s a result of excessive force by Denver police.
It’s also not clear what actually sparked the fight. The girlfriend reportedly told the local television station that the incident, which happened at a residence on Clermont Street, started with a verbal argument. She said things “got out of hand.” Fisher, she said, “snapped.”
She said he began ripping cabinets off her kitchen walls. She said she had her feet up against the wall, attempting to keep Fisher out. But he overpowered her and burst in the door, pushing her into a cabinet before he began ripping the cabinets down.
She added that she would never allow her daughter to have been treated the way she has.
It’s important to remember though that we’re only hearing one side of the story. At this point, Fisher and his Denver criminal defense attorney have declined comment. And this may be smart, especially until they can get all the details sorted out.
Offenses like disturbing the peace are usually handled in county court. The General Sessions Divisions handles things like that, as well as shoplifting, loitering, petty theft, assault and urinating in public. It may also handle cases that involve drug possession, weapons charges, domestic violence and juvenile offenses.
It’s important before you go before a county judge – no matter what the accusation – to have an experienced Denver criminal defense attorney at your side. What you don’t want is an overworked, harried public defender taking on a case that could potentially impact your freedom and your future.
Fisher is a member of the Grammy Award-winning band OneRepublic, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2009 with the hit “Apologize,” a collaboration with Timbaland.
