A woman in Pontiac, Michigan was recently charged with shoplifting and eluding the authorities, reported the Detroit Free Press. The 35-year-old woman allegedly shoplifted items from a Walgreen’s store and took off with her frantic teenage daughter in her car.
According to police, multiple squad cars chased the suspect after she fled the Walgreen’s store. She sped down two major highways with several squad cars hot in pursuit. The suspect intentionally sideswiped several police cars as she sped down the highway. Her daughter was heard on a police car video crying and telling sheriff’s deputies after the chase ended that she pleaded with her mother to stop the car and she was afraid they both would end up getting killed. A squad car finally forced the suspect’s vehicle off the road. Her vehicle rolled onto the side before finally coming to a stop. She and her daughter were not seriously injured.
The suspect was awaiting arraignment for an outstanding fraud warrant. At press time, she was being held in a county jail after she failed to post bond. She was charged with retail fraud, fourth-degree child abuse and third-degree eluding and fleeing. All of the charges combined carry up to a six-year jail term. The suspect also had a previous fraud conviction on her record.
Attempting to evade the authorities and having previous outstanding warrants on her record will not make this suspect’s defense attorney’s job easy. She will like face jail time. The length of jail term depends on how well her attorney does his job.
