Denver

Denver, being the capitol city of Colorado, has much to offer both visitors and residents. With its rich history and culture, its steady growth in population and booming economy it’s easy to see why so many people want to call Denver home. The city is nicknamed the “Mile-High City” due to the fact its elevation is exactly one mile above sea level.

Yesterday and Today

Denver City was founded in 1958 during the Peak Gold Rush, and has a vivid past full of political intrigue and old West style corruption. Modern day Denver, however, is a boasting metropolis that was home to 80 official neighborhoods, 200 parks, and architecture as diverse as the residents that call Denver home.

Government

Denver is considered a consolidated city-county, and elects a mayor on a nonpartisan ballot. In addition to the mayor, there is a 13-member city council and an auditor. Elected officials have four-year terms, with a maximum of three terms permitted. The city may be bi-partisan, but the majority of elected officials are Democrat party affiliated.

Economy

Denver has the 18th largest economy in the United States, with a gross metropolitan product of $157.6 billion. Because of the convenient location and time zone, many major companies and government offices have relocated to Denver over the years.

This strong economy has kept people relocating to Denver, and the population has consistently grown 2% each year from 1997 to 2007. The median household income in Denver is 15.6% higher than the national median income.
