Golden

Golden is a small town with a population of 18,000, nestled between Lookout Mountain and the two Table Mountains. The city began as a gold-rush town, hence its name, and quickly became a major thoroughfare between Denver and the Rockies. Today, Golden is home of Coors Brewery and the School of Mines, but still has it’s small town charm.

Economy

Golden has a median household income of $49,115, and a median family income of $67,414. Less than 3.5% of the families residing in the town are below the federal poverty line, while 11.3% of the population was below the poverty line. Major employers include Coors Brewing Company, Colorado School of Mines, Spyderco and CoorsTek.

Colorado School of Mines

The Colorado School of Mines is a public research university that focuses on engineering and applied science. It has the highest admission policies of any Colorado School, and only accepts 9% of the applications received.  Mines is considered by most to be the leader in mineral engineering.

Colorado School of Mines operates the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum. The school also hosts the Colorado State Science Olympiad and the Colorado Regional Science Bowl each year.

Recreation and the Arts

Golden provides many recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike. In addition to many parks and outdoor recreational areas, Golden is also home to Splash Water Park, the Fossil Trace Golf Club, the Golden History Museum and the American Mountaineering Museum.

The Jefferson Symphony Orchestra, Foothills Art Center, Heritage Square Music Hall and the Miners Alley Playhouse all provide opportunities to enjoy the arts in Golden.
