Lakewood

Lakewood is located in Jefferson County, and is the 5th largest city in Colorado. Until 1969, Lakewood had no local government and relied on Jefferson County for services. The city occupies over 42 square miles of land, and has no traditional downtown area.

Outdoor Activities

Lakewood is home to over 99 parks and open spaces throughout the city. In addition to numerous public parks and playgrounds, there are over 36 miles of trails that are open to equestrians, bikers, walkers and runners. The parks and other city attractions are monitored by the Lakewood Horse Patrol, an all volunteer unit of the City of Lakewood.

Two highly rated golf courses are found inside of Lakewood, the Homestead at Fox Follow and the Fox Hollow Lakewood Golf Course. These golf courses have won numerous awards, including the most family friendly course in Colorado.

Demographics and Economy

Lakewood is home to over 150,000 people. The median income for a household is $48,109 and the median income for a family is $57,171. 4.8% of families and 7.1% of the population fall below the federal poverty limit. The largest employers in the area are government employers. The Denver Federal Center employs over 6,200 people and the Jefferson County school district employs nearly 4,000 people.
